Reboot your BlackBerry without taking the Battery out!
Every once in a while out beloved BlackBerry’s face the problem that they the software hangs. Most people think that the only way to reboot your BlackBerry is by taking out the battery. Luckily the developers of the BlackBerry OS thought about this problem and they have implemented a feature that allows to reset the BlackBerry just like you can restart a windows computer with Ctrl-Alt-Delete.
Here is how it works:
- Press ALT-CAP-Backspace to reboot your BlackBerry.
- As soon as the screen comes back up, press ALT-CAP-Backspace again.
Here are the buttons that you need to press:
A few points that you have to consider:
- The first time you press ALT-CAP-Backspace, your Blackberry will release your cell connection and re-acquire. In order to truly reboot your Blackberry, press ALT-CAP-Backspace, and as soon as the screen comes back up, press ALT-CAP-Backspace again.
- On the 8310, this only works if you press the right hand caps key.
If you own a BlackBerry Storm with a touchscreen you won’T find any keys and unfortunately there is not "out-of-the-box" solution to this. Luckily there is a free application called "Soft Reset" that allows you to reboot your BlackBerry without taking the battery out.
You can download the OTA version or the ZIP version if you want to install it using your BlackBerry Desktop Manager. I recommend the OTA (Over-The-Air) version.
Here are steps necessary to install the ZIP version:
- Unzip the file that you download.
- Run the BB Desktop Manager.
- Select Application Loader.
- Click Start under Add/Remove Applications.
- When the Device Application Selection window opens, click on the browse… button.
- Navigate to the location where the file was unzipped to.
- Highlight and open the SoftReset.alx file.
Have fun rebooting your BlackBerry
